Providing Support to Aussie Families Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic
“I have a request. I am the father of 3 kids, ages 5, 7 and 9. I drove for Uber in these tough and risky conditions, but right now, there is no work out there for me. I spent 5 hours on the road and couldn’t even make $30. I have groceries at home for approximately 4 more days. My wife and I are eating less so that we can have just a little bit more to give the kids. We couldn’t make the rent this month and we can’t pay our utility bills. Please help us with anything you can. Please help me.”
“I need help as I have become unemployed due to the lockdown. I worked as a sole trader driving for uber. Unfortunately I have had to return my rental and have become jobless effective immediately. I have no money to pay for my rental or rent which im boarding. I have a wife and a baby and we need financial help please.”

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses known to cause respiratory infections. These can range from the common cold to more serious diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). This new coronavirus originated in Hubei Province, China and the disease is named COVID-19.
Coronavirus is most likely to spread from person-to-person through:
- Direct close contact with a person while they are infectious or in the 24 hours before their symptoms appeared.
- Close contact with a person with a confirmed infection who coughs or sneezes.
- Touching objects or surfaces (such as door handles or tables) contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with a confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face.
Social distancing is one way to help slow the spread of viruses such as COVID-19. Social distancing includes staying at home when you are unwell and keeping a distance of 1.5 metres between you and other people whenever possible. It is important to minimise physical contact especially with people at higher risk of developing serious symptoms, such as older people and people with existing health conditions. Government restrictions apply for organised outdoor gatherings of more than 500 people and indoor gatherings of more than 100 people that are not essential. There’s no need to change your daily routine, but taking these social distancing precautions can help protect the people in our community who are most at risk.
You do not need to wear a mask if you are healthy. While the use of masks can help to prevent transmission of disease from infected patients to others, masks are not currently recommended for use by healthy members of the public for the prevention of infections like coronavirus.
- people with compromised immune systems (e.g. cancer)
- elderly people
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as they have higher rates of chronic illness
- people with diagnosed chronic medical conditions
- very young children and babies*
- people in group residential settings
- people in detention facilities.
YES, Crescent Relief is DGR status charity. All donations to Crescent Relief are Tax Deductible.
The main object of the Orphan Family Support Program is to serve an orphan at his own home by supporting his family. We provide the financial support to the mother to take care of his education, health and food. If both parents have died then we would request close relatives to keep the child with them and will help them with financials. We try our best that child dost not deprived of the relatives and family like atmosphere. An orphanage is the last resort.
When the application is received back along with necessary documents (father’s death certificate etc.), Our field officer will visit the neighborhood of the applicant to investigate the authenticity. Once confirmed, The orphan will be enrolled in Program and financial assistance will be started on the quarterly basis.
Extra and co-curricular activities are organized to prepare children for practical life in the best possible way, like competitions, games etc. All the enrolled orphans are provided school supplies and uniforms at the start of the educational year. Yearly health checks are arranged with the help of experienced doctors.
Occasionally we take children to big restaurants so they are on the same level as their class fellows. Great thing to keep them from an inferiority complex.
This program ends once the orphan completes the high school. If he/she want to continue further studies, we enroll them in our Higher Education Sponsorship program.
Yes You Can!
In fact, Orphan Care is the best use of Zakat. Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this,” and he held his two fingers together to illustrate.
The cost of the sponsorship is only $570 annually while monthly payment is $50. When you sponsor an orphan, we would request you to support him/her till the completion of year 10. We pray that you keep growing financially but if there is any financial difficulty at any stage, you can stop the payments for the time being.
Our officer visits the government school and identifies the orphan students with the help of management. These orphans are given the application form. When the application is received back along with necessary documents (father’s death certificate etc.), Our field officer will visit the neighbourhood of the applicant to investigate the authenticity. If the orphan has brothers and sisters studying in other schools, we try to take them on board as well.
Yes You Can!
We give choice to our donors to select the child from the orphans list. This list includes all the details of the orphans like sex, age, locality and school grade.
When you sponsor an orphan, Crescent Reief will create an online accout for you where you can find the profile of the orphan and his progress reports. We keep informed the donor about the progress of the orphan in the school, health status and extra curriculum activities.
Orphan Family Support Program is unique and different than other charities’ programs. It is similar to Foster Care but better in many aspects. Orphan lives with mother or other relatives and Crescent Relief supports the family. An orphanage is last resort.
It is not just about financial help but making sure that orphan receives the quality education, maintains good health while living a normal life with his family without being deprived of the necessities of life. We focus especially on character building. We have devised extracurricular activities to make sure that the orphan to achieve his full potential.
Another great feature of this program is reporting. The donor will receive the quarterly reports about the sponsored orphan. This is the weak link for most of the charities but the strongest feature of Crescent Relief.
